Books from Diverse Voices
Welcome to Two Sisters Writing & Publishing®. We specialize in books that are against-the-odds success stories, memoirs, business books, poetry collections, and provocative novels. We publish inspirational books that have uplifting messages. Our goal is to publish books that align with our philosophy of equality, justice, diversity, inclusion, and women’s and gender empowerment. We do not publish: horror, violence, any messages of hate, crime exposés, or topics that don’t vibe with our be-the-change mission. We’d love to help you find a great book to read, write your book, and/or publish your book.
Call for Illustrator: Graphic Novel Adaptation of The Veronica Series
Project Title: Veronica Graphic Novel Series (adaptation of Catherine Greenspan’s Veronica, I Heard Your Mom’s Black, Veronica Talks to Boys, Race Home, Veronica) (Goodreads)
Client / Author: Catherine M. Greenspan
Genre / Audience: Young adult / middle grade; coming-of-age themes, race & identity, social issues
Project Overview
I am seeking a talented illustrator (or illustration team) to help adapt The Veronica Series into a graphic novel (or graphic novel series). The books tackle themes of racial identity, belonging, friendships, family, and self-discovery. The visual approach should honor the nuance, tone, and emotional depth of the original prose, while making it engaging for visual readers.
The initial adaptation may cover Book 1 (and possibly beyond) depending on scope and funding. Illustrations will include full-page spreads, sequential panels, character designs, covers, and possibly spot art.
What You’ll Do / Scope of Work
Below is a rough outline; final scope will be determined after discussions:
- Character design & model sheets for major, supporting, and recurring characters
- Environment / background art (interiors, exteriors, school, home, neighborhood, Cape Cod, etc.)
- Sequential pages / comic panels with clear storytelling, pacing, and visual flow
- Cover art & title pages
- Spot illustrations / chapter header art (optional)
- Coloring / rendering (if working in full color) or grayscale / limited palette
- Revision cycles / editorial adjustments
- Work closely with the author / editor to ensure faithfulness to tone, characters, and themes.
Desired Style & Look
To guide you, here are aesthetic / stylistic preferences and “musts”:
- A realistic or semi-realistic style (not overly cartoonish) with expressive faces and emotionally resonant poses
- Sensitive handling of racial identity and diversity (skin tones, hair texture, cultural markers)
- Strong sense of place—school, hometown, Cape Cod settings
- Good use of lighting, atmosphere, and mood to reflect internal states
- Clean, legible panels, good pacing; clarity in transitions
- (Optional) Consider a slightly muted or natural color palette, or limited palette if budget constrains full-color
If you have a portfolio or sample work in similar genres (YA, social issues, dramatic graphic novels), that’s a big plus.
Deliverables & Format Expectations
- Fully layered digital files (e.g. PSD, Clip Studio, Procreate, or equivalent)
- Final art in print-ready resolution (e.g. 300 dpi or appropriate size for printing)
- Export formats: high-quality TIFF/PNG/PDF for print, and web-friendly versions (for promotion/web preview)
- Documented assets: character model sheets, color swatches, fonts (if any)
- Timely delivery on milestones (to be agreed)
- Rights: Grant me exclusive print/web/ebook rights to the illustrations (for the Veronica graphic novel), with clear usage terms (we can negotiate).
